1897 birth

1917-1925 two short marriages

In 1917, Mona married Henry J. Schlesinger, with whom she had her only child Robert Henry, but the marriage only lasted three years. She divorced Henry in 1920, It was said that she gave up the custody of her son in exchange of 500,000 from her husband.

Then in 1921, She married to banker James Irving Bush, who was reputed to be the most handsome man in America. This marriage was however also short lived and by 1925 Mona became divorcee again.

1926 Mrs. Harrison Williams

In 1926, Mona opened a boutique in New York which would be financed by Harrison Williams, one of the richest man in the United States at the time, whose nickname was The utilities king of America, and in July of that year, and Mona became Mrs. Harrison Williams. Although later she would be called most Mona Bismarck or Mona von Bismarck because of her fourth husband. In the world of art, she would be refered to as Mrs. Harrison Williams due to the Salvador Dali Painting of her.

This marriage lasted until the death of Mr. Harrison Williams in 1953.

1933 most elegant woman in the world

In the year 1933, Mona was declared "The Best Dressed Woman in the World" by a syndicate of renowned fashion houses of Paris, that included Chanel, Molyneux, Vionnet, Lelong and Lanvin. The same title was subsequently awarded to the Duchess of Windsor in 1934 and Elsie de Wolfe in 1935.

1955-1970 Mona von Bismarck

Two years after the death of her third husband Mr. Harrison Williams, Mona married, the Count Eduard von Bismarck(1903-1970), the grandson of the former German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck,thus becamed Countese Mona von Bismarck, which is how she is mostly refered to there after.

This time, too, Mona stayed in the marriage until the death of her husband in 1970.

Last years

In 1971, Mona Bismarck married for the last time Dr. Umberto de Martini, her ex-husband Count Bismarck`s personal physician, an unhappy marriage which ended 8 years later when Martini died in a car accident.

On 7 July 1983, Mona von Bismarck died in Paris.

THE style

After her marriage with Harrison Williams, Mona started to dress in the best Haute Couture designed by Chanel, Schiaparelli, Mainbocher, Vionnet and other French Couturiers, but after meeting Cristobal Balenciaga, she almost dressed in Balenciaga only, including her gardening outfit, until Balenciaga decided to close his couture house in 1968,  and introduced her to his disciple and friend Hubert dHubert de Givenchye Givenchy. 

When Mona Bismarck received the news of Balenciaga`s retirement, She stayed in her bedroom of her villa Il Fortino in Capri for three days.
