The filmThe film The Razor's Edge is a 1946 film based on W. Somerset Maugham's 1944 novel of the same name. It stars Tyrone Power, Gene Tierney, John Payne, Anne Baxter, Clifton Webb, and Herbert Marshall, with a supporting cast including Lucile Watson, Frank Latimore, and Elsa Lanchester. The film was directed by Edmund Goulding. The Razor's Edge tells the story of Larry Darrell, an American pilot traumatized by his experiences in World War I, who sets off in search of some transcendent meaning in his life. The story begins through the eyes of Larry's friends and acquaintances as they witness his personality change after the War. His rejection of conventional life and search for meaningful experience allows him to thrive while the more materialistic characters suffer reversals of fortune. The Razor's Edge was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Motion Picture, with Anne Baxter winning Best Actress in a Supporting Role. The film was released on 23 August 1947.    The dressIn the film, Gene Tierney as Isabel, fiancee of Larry Darrell played by Tyrone Power, wore a wedding dress for their wedding scene. The dress was made of lace, featuring high mandarin collar and long fitting sleeves with shirring details in front of both bodice and skirt. The dress is in column shape with longer hem at the back serving as a small train. The dress was designed by Gene Tierney's then husband Oleg Cassini, which he had originally designed for his own wedding in 1941 to Tierney. Gene Tierney wore the wedding dress with a halo shaped lace cap to which her long tulle veil were attached.   Side note: After filming of The Razor's Edge, Gene Tierney’s stand-in Kay Adell Stork would wear this wedding dress at her own wedding.
